Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act
More than 40 original works of art trace the development and amazing creativity of the American master sculptor, with particular depth in his most celebrated period, the late 1940s. Highlights include miniature maquettes, works on paper, jewelry, monumental sculptures, and one of his largest mobiles.

Michelangelo Public and Private:
Drawings for the Sistine Chapel and Other Treasures from the Casa Buonarroti

Centered around 12 original drawings by Michelangelo, this special exhibition features portraits of the artist, personal documents and decorative arts. Its primary focus is Michelangelo’s preliminary work for the Sistine Chapel in Rome, including a selection of working drawings for the Sistine Ceiling and the Last Judgment.

Please join us at 12:30 pm for our Annual Members Meeting with the new Illsley Ball Nordstrom Director, Derrick Cartwright, as well as exhibition overviews by Michael Darling, SAM's Jon & Mary Shirley Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, and Dr. Gary Radke, Dean's Professor of the Humanities at Syracuse University and curatorial advisor for Michelangelo Public and Private.

Additional exhibition overviews by Michael Darling and Dr. Gary Radke will be presented at 6:30 pm. Enjoy the last week of Andrew Wyeth: Remembrance with one of the Wyeth Wednesdays talks by SAM curators at 2, 3 and 4 pm.

SAM Gallery’s fall show focuses on drawings, monotypes, collages and paintings on paper by Flora Bowley, Blake Haygood, Richard Hutter, Layne Kleinart, Deborah F. Lawrence, Carol Lefkowitz, Patrick LoCicero and Anne Petty. The gallery will also feature Connect by Catherine Grisez, an installation in our University Street window, from October 6 through December 4.
